The design of the book cover was meant to illicit a feeling as though you are looking at a field manual regarding a specific animal. This goes along with the theme of the book which is a fictional narrative masquerading as a non-fiction historical text, thus the juxtaposition between a serious field sketch and an alpaca wearing a top hat and monocle.
